I’ve been blessed this year by photographing some highly creative, unique and quirky weddings some have been Pagan and Humanist, these have allowed my artistic approach to wedding photography come through.

I want my images to have a soul, a meaning, a purpose.

I want my images to draw you in.

I want my images to give you a true feeling of the day as I felt it and experienced it, even if you weren’t a guest,

I want to share this feeling and connection with you.

Clients book me because they say they have never seen any other type of wedding photography like mine, I don’t set out to photograph this way, it just feels right to me, it feels natural, this is what Katie and James saw in me.

I never really know what the brides dress will look like, sometimes brides secretly tell me before the wedding but most of the time it’s as much of a surprise to me as it is for everyone else, Katie’s dress was beautiful and elegant from Phase 8, enhanced with some added details of feather epaulettes by rouge pony, her real foliage head dress created by James mum (who also made all the floristry for the wedding) had a cute little addition of a white mouse and all finished off with vintage cowboy boots ready for the evening dancing.

The reception was held on James family farm and the ceremony took place in Katie’s grandparents vegetable garden, surround by an orchard of apple trees, wedding balloons and wind chimes, its rural mix worked so well. As this was a humanist wedding their good friend with his big beard and western neck tie took the outdoor ceremony. A barn owl delivered the rings and K&J were bound by the circle of marriage and love. Katie’s father had been making a outdoor bar for some time with its eclectic mix of Hawaiian nick nacks and rubber ducks it was crazy and perfect.

A dream of Katie and James was to have photos with reindeers and Christmas Trees, how is this possible for a midsummers wedding, well easy when you know the right people. They arrived in true eclectic style driven by a boarder control officer in an authentic 1950’s military jeep. My inspiration for these portraits was taken from the vintage American Wild West portraits – Stern faces and rigid postures. It’s bizarre and quirky but it worked

The table decorations were something I was really intrigued in seeing, hearing about their plans and style over the weeks leading up to the wedding and expressing their like for taxidermy I couldn’t of imagined how the two would sit side by side without being offensive to some, but oh my! It looked amazing and suited this style of quirky wedding. The wedding breakfast was unique in two ways, firstly the lamb was reared on James family farm and secondly each table had a designated guest who became the chef carving the joint for the table. The outdoor games of hula hoop, coconut shire, boules and then rounders perked up the guests ready for the band –The Brothel Creepers who rocked the dance floor through to the early hours.

A truly special wedding and what I like most is that it was unique to them. Their tastes and style came through in creative brilliance.

I will always remember this Mid Summer’s Eve.
