The art of Maternity & Newborn Photography

The Pregnancy Stage in a Woman’s life is one of the most amazing, soul changing times. You are growing a baby – yes you! As a man It’s hard to fully relate through these stages of pregnancy – I know it’s not always comfortable…the sickness, the cramps, the bloating, the swelling…and the not feeling so amazing! But, as a father of four children, being around mothers and babies and specialising in newborn photography it does give me a pretty good understanding of what your going through – physically and emotionally. When I capture maternity pregnancy photos it is my job to make you look and feel amazing for just about an hour. Then, you can relax, put your legs up and eat chocolate the rest of the day!

I hear many clients tell me how they wished they had discovered me for their first born pregnancy  “I deeply regret not having pregnancy photos taken of my children, at the time it just wasn’t for ME”. You must remember its for the generation following behind. You will want your children to know how proud you were to be called their Mother and what a privilege carrying them was, they will also love to look back at these photos when they are older.

Being a parent gives you a new reason to exist, and you will cherish your newborn photos forever. A baby will be this little for so long, they will only fit in your arms like this for a very short time. I love delivering and capturing this emotion, thats why I do what I do.

The best time to schedule your pregnancy session is around 28-34 weeks, when your tummy is a good shape. This will vary with each woman – and some women who carry small, or gain little weight may choose to wait until they are 36-38 weeks. You want to come when you feel good, have a nice tummy but before the downward venture begins! Other women who are growing a bit more rapidly, may choose to come around 28-32 weeks. The idea is to come when you are nice and comfortable and have a nice round tummy. It’s best to book the session at least 2-4 weeks in advance. My studio always leaves room for the expected Mum and new arrivals, so if your near the end of your term and need a session, just call so I can get you in!
