A destination wedding in Lake Como has been a dream of mine to photograph for some time, I’ve always loved the Italian way of life and the beautiful setting of Lake Como. Having met Lucia and Dan at one of her bridesmaids wedding I photographed a couple of years ago, it meant we already had a great relationship and they welcomed me with open arms along with their family, friends and the very talented wedding planner Gemma from My Lake Como Wedding.

It was great to work with Gemma I can’t praise her enough she has a wonderful manner and style that attracts great clients and suppliers. She makes everyone feel at ease and ensures the smooth planning of your day – Finding the right venues and sought after suppliers, through to the perfectly timed wedding day in all its splendour and luxury. Like me she loves her job and it shows in everything she does. This is invaluable for couples wanting a destination wedding in Lake Como. I know Lucia and Dan couldn’t of been able to have the wedding they had without her creativity, skill and local knowledge. To anyone considering a destination wedding in Italy you should defiantly get in touch with her.

Varenna is a small little village on the edge of the lake, the air is filled with the sweet smell of Jasmine and lavender, overhead the sound of calling swallows can be heard over the low hum of the riva’s out on the lake. We started the morning preparations at the beautiful Villa Cipressi with Lucia wearing a beautiful gown by Stephanie Allin and Dan in a made to measure suit by Cad & The Dandy. We then sailed to the incredible Villa Carlotta for the outdoor ceremony on the terrace and the couple portraits in the famous botanical gardens of the villa. From there all guest boarded 2 boats and I travelled with Lucia & Dan in style on board the riva, we sped back to Villa Cipressi jostling in between the guest boats which was great fun. On arrival the jetty at Hotel Royal Victoria is a great opportunity for lake side portraits and then just a short 2 min walk to Cipressi where the reception and party were taking place. Italy is an incredible place and everywhere I looked I could see endless possibilities for beautiful photos. It really is sensory overload. The sights, the smell, the sound and oh the food!!! But most of all as with every wedding – people make the day.
